It’s crazy, the little things that you remember that have shaped who you have become!
Something so simple like the daily chant that was repeated every Friday Night and at the end of practice every day during my high school football days…
Today’s the day we meet our foe and now it’s time to go, go, go…
Today’s the day we meet our foe and now it’s time to Go, Go, Go
TODAY’S THE DAY WE MEET OUR FOE AND NOW IT’s TIME TO GO, GO, GO!
On Saturday “Today’s the day” would be replaced by “Six more days until” to remind us how many days were left to meet next Friday’s opponent. A signal, without us knowing, that would unconsciously tell us the last game was over and it was time to move on regardless of victory or defeat. A simple chant that seemed to automatically sniff out those minds that were dwelling on the past and refusing to move forward.
With each passing day the countdown rang…
Five more days until…
Four more days until…
Three more days until…
Two more days until…
One more day until…
Always reminding us of the time left to prepare for the next target. Again, a spoken signal that relayed an unspoken message that each day mattered. We must move forward as a team towards our next goal!
Amidst all the distractions, this simple chant…
-
ignited forward thinking
-
eliminated dwelling on the past
-
extinguished procrastination
-
created a growth mindset
What signals are embedded in your daily practice to consistently promote forward thinking and planning for you and your team?
Your either growing or dwelling on the past…
There’s no third alternative!
