Make it Easy For People to Do Business With You!

 

This really amazes me, how hard people make it to do business with them! Here is the thing they don’t even realize that they’re making it hard.

 

Let me give you a few examples.

 

#1 – Making it hard to pay you.

Scenario 1 is a prospect was on a call and ready to get started. The vendor we were using said that they don’t like to take credit cards they like to accept check. I get not wanting to pay the credit card fee of 3% plus, but it killed the deal. 3% of $18,500 would have been $555 a fee that sucks, but it would have been a great convenience for the prospect and guess what?

 

The prospect never sent the check and we have been chasing him ever since. The cost was not $555 it was $18,500!

 

I have been working with another firm who send me an invoice. I asked them repeatedly to just send me a link. What has transpired for them has cost them.

 

The first time they sent their sales guy to my house to pick up the check. This took calls with the owner, another person and the sales guy to arrange the pickup. What are they paying all those people? The second time they sent me a Qickbooks online link. The third time it was like I never asked for a link to be sent. The owner has called, text and emailed me about paying the bill. Again, I asked for a link to be sent over.

 

#2 – Not making it easy to set an appointment with you.

I have seen numerous times people go back and forth on email or on a phone call asking…

“What time is good for you?”

“I don’t what is a good time for you?”

“No that doesn’t work.”

The conversation continuous on for a few more minutes and one says I’ll just email you.

 

#3 – Not making the sales process easy.

Do you have a sales process that has Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)?

How many meetings does it take to close business?

What happens in between those meetings?

What happens when prospect is ready to pay?

What happens when they become a paying client?

 

#4 – Not setting proper expectations.

I recently had someone tell me in the first month he was going to introduce us to 3 prospects. When month two came he said he never said that.

 

I was recently on a conference call with a prospect. The guy who set up the call had to stop the call because he only had one conference line and somebody else had to use it.

He ended the call abruptly and didn’t get the next commitment from the prospect. He just left it as we would follow up.

 

WHAT?

 

You need to set the expectation of what is coming next and schedule what is coming next.

The best way to make it easy to do business with you is to make sure you have Standard Operating Procedures for everything.

 

What happens from the first contact to the time someone doesn’t need your service?

Your receptionist should be trained as a sales person. What happens if a prospect comes in? What happens if a prospect calls in? Is the person trained properly.

 

What do you do as a sales person when you set an appointment with a prospect? Who sends the calendar invite? Who confirms the meeting? Who sets the agenda? Do you have scripted questions, presentation and close?

 

The bottom line is you need to continuously rehearse and simulate the process and the success of the process.

 

What are your SOPs?

Does your staff know your SOPs?

Your ability to consistently display Passion & Energy will determine your current effectiveness and future potential as a Leader. To ensure that you deliver on time every time with these intangibles there are standards and routines that you must adhere to. Because it’s not easy to be on top of your game 24/7. You can’t stop because you never know who is listening or watching today!

 

It all starts with Preparation. What you do every morning will determine your ability to deliver. Yeah you might have an easy day ahead of you, but you never know who you might run into. And when the unplanned encounter happens will you be at your best when your best is needed?

 

The willingness to prepare breeds physical and mental clarity that will show up on a moments notice. Regardless of the workload that day, week or month a daily sense of urgency and eagerness to perform, learn and improve is a non-negotiable.

 

When Opportunity Comes… You May Only Get One Chance… Excuses Won’t Help You!

 

Part of preparation but separate in its own rights is Organization. You might think you are preparing properly, but if it’s not laid out in way that is repeatable and suits you then the results will be inconsistent. Preparation must have a purpose that is laid out in an Organized fashion that answers the following questions…

Why are you here?

What do want to accomplish?

What are your priorities?

How do you want to be viewed by others?

 

Once you have concrete and complete answers to these questions you will have a roadmap to begin executing your Organized Routine. Don’t be like most Leaders that have grandiose thoughts and ideas that they never execute. Remember… Actions speak louder than words.

 

Prepared and Organized thoughts put into action with Passion & Energy will automatically display a sincere eagerness to sacrifice your personal interests for the benefit all. Over time this Will to Win vibe will become contagious and influence your followers. They will love to listen to you when you speak and they will love to speak to you because you listen.

 

To sustain this type of performance and influence a certain amount and type of Energy is needed. Both positive and negative energy can be contagious. It’s pretty obvious here what type of energy is needed. Your daily Preparation, Organization and Will to Win should naturally convey this right type of energy… if not it’s time to take a peak at those 5 questions that I referred to earlier. This is not for the weak minded… it takes tremendous focus and intentional effort to stay on track.

 

The most overwhelming part is the amount of energy it takes. To start… moderating or eliminating your participation in the social arena is a must. Without proper rest and nutrition there is no way you will have enough energy to deliver day in and day out. It’s also highly suggested and scientifically proven to exercise daily as it releases endorphins that trigger a

positive feeling in the body… sounds like a no brainer to me!

 

Striving for consistency is the key to delivering on time every time. Repetition is the only way to obtain it. Repeating the fundamentals obsessively as part of a daily routine will yield the results you desire. Regardless of your desired outcome…

Here is Where the NFL Players are Going Wrong!

This polarizing state of America is completely out of control and idiotic. We’re playing right into the hands of the people in charge thinking we are in charge rather than understanding it is them who pulling the strings.

 

This polarization is the same thing that goes on in companies without great leadership.

 

Here is where the NFL Players and business leaders go wrong.

No clearly defined problem.

No clearly defined action plan.

No clearly defined outcome.

(If you disagree that’s cool. More on that in a minute. 🙂 )

 

Where the player, NFL and fans disconnect is what is the problem? I know the media and social media has played a lot into this where the players ideas of what they were protesting and what the fans say they’re protesting are two different things. But, this is more about a business lesson than anything going on with the NFL.

 

But, here in lies the problem in any organization. (Also if you think I’m wrong on the clearly defined problem thing, then here is the problem.) Organizations need…

When you look at the NFL debate whether the players should or shouldn’t, whether the owners should or shouldn’t, whether the commissioner should or shouldn’t or whether the fans should or shouldn’t.

 

The biggest problem is there is no clearly defined outcome?

 

No matter what you’re trying to accomplish in life as a leader you need to…

KNOW YOUR OUTCOME

 

What is the end result? What is your goal?

 

Your outcome needs to be measurable. How can you measure what you’re trying to accomplish?

 

If you don’t have a clear measurement it becomes a loss performative. Meaning it doesn’t perform in any material and measurable way. This is exactly why we see the dissention among the NFL and the fans.

 

Think about your organization, if you say I want everyone to be better, what will happen? There will be a constant debate between your employees and yourself if they are better or not. It becomes a comparative deletion.

 

Better compare to what?

 

How do you fix this?

 

You put some clearly defined goals and outcomes in place.

 

The next thing you need to measure are the actions to drive the outcome. The NFL as I see it has some actions…Players taking a knee, but is this serving their outcome? (We already defined that they don’t seem to have a clear and measurable outcome.)

 

The next step is…

REVERSE ENGINEER YOUR OUTCOME

 

Once you know your outcome and goals start defining what are all the actions I can take to drive that outcome?

 

When you start listing these in business you not only have a measurable outcome but you have measurable actions.

This is one of the greatest conversations of my life!

I did a podcast with the Patriot Racer.

My first experience with the Patriot Racer was in High School wrestling.

It was during winter break and we had do a 3-mile fun run. 3 miles is honestly not a big deal, unless you want to win.

This day I was up against Michael Mendoza. We ran the 3 miles and as I approached the finish Mike was what seemed to be 3 football fields ahead of me. I was finishing 3 miles in 18 minutes.

A Dying Breed…

COMMUNICATION is the fundamental necessity for all of the relationships within and outside all exceptional teams. Employee to executive, executive to employee, employee to employee, executive to executive and the organization as a whole to the client. These lines must never be closed or broken.

 

However, there is one communication killer that unfortunatley gets in the way…

 

…LOYALTY

 

I’m sure most of you at this point are saying Loyalty, that left the workplace ages ago. That doesn’t exist anymore! That’s because you are working for the wrong team or you need an attitude adjustment.

 

A team that is LOYAL displays a sincere eagerness to sacrice their personal interests for the welfare of all. Instead of being concerned with Rights & Privileges, high functioning teams that COMMUNICATE focus their attention on the Obligations & Responsibilities from top to bottom. The best interest of the TEAM is always the priority.

 

“The Lion and the Three Bulls,” written by the Greek fable writer Aesop, provides a great example into how important it is for teammates to communicate with each other and their clients…

 

Three bulls lived together for a long time in a pasture. Though they ate and lived side by side, they never spoke with one another — they always kept to themselves. One day a lion came along and saw the bulls. The lion was very hungry, but he knew that he could never attack three bulls at once because together they would overpower him and kill him. So the lion approached the bulls one at a time. Since one bull never knew what the others were doing, they didn’t realize that the lion was working to separate them. The lion, who was crafty, succeeded in dividing them, and with them successfully isolated, he attacked them individually. Thus he overcame all three of them and satisfied his hunger.

 

Having a high functioning team is not a choice. It’s the bi-product of a decision that says we are going to be different. We are going to be ONE TEAM that’s only concern is the overall growth (survival) of the organization.

 

COMMUNICATION creates strength! But… It doesn’t exist without LOYALTY!
